The Parker Report - Agenda Review with Jane 9/20/09

You are Invited to Agenda Review with Jane this Sunday!

Immediately following Supervisor Parker’s Community Meeting on Healthcare that will be held from 3-5pm this Sunday, September 20th at the Marina Public Library, Jane will conduct her weekly Agenda Review from 5-6pm at Mike’s Pizza in Marina.

There are a few very important and interesting items on the agenda for next week’s meeting. There are six scheduled items and 45 consent items on the agenda.

Of particular interest is Item S-3, an oral presentation from the Health Department’s Clinic service Director highlighting the County’s Federally Qualified Health Center Look-Alike clinics. This presentation is in response to a Board Referral made by Supervisor Parker to recognize the new Clinic Services Director, Julie Edgcomb, and provide an opportunity for the Board to discuss health care issues.

In item S-4, the Board will receive a report on Monterey County’s Comprehensive Violence Prevention, Intervention, Suppression and Reentry Framework. The preparation of the Framework is the result of a request from Congressman Sam Farr to develop a multi-agency/countywide strategic vision which can be conveyed to federal and state agencies in an effort to obtain funds for anti-gang efforts. Supervisor Parker will be asking her colleagues to adopt the Framework with the inclusion of stronger prevention elements. We believe that public comment from the community will be important in communicating the importance of prevention as a critical component of this Framework. Let us know if you would like us to email you a copy of the framework and a copy of the letter that Supervisor Parker has sent to her colleagues outlining her requests. We are inviting community organizations who agree that we need to prioritize prevention in this Framework for Peace and Safety to consider speaking at both the Board of Supervisors Meeting and the Salinas City Council Meeting on Tuesday. The Supervisors will hear this item at 1:30pm in the Government Center Board Chambers (168 W Alisal Street, Salinas) and the City Council will hear this item sometime after 4pm in the Rotunda (200 Lincoln Avenue, Salinas).

Other agenda items include: Staff is recommending that the Board, in Item S-6, adopt a resolution adopting the Monterey County Voluntary Oak Woodland Stewardship Guidelines which shall serve as the County’s oak woodlands management plan.

The Consent Calendar includes authorization for the purchase of two fuel efficient vehicles for the Women, Infants, and Children Program (#21), support for efforts to restore funding for the Williamson Act subventions (#28), several minor Subdivision actions (#’s 34, 35, and 36), and setting a hearing for an ordinance to update the floodplain management regulations (#44).

In other Board matters, the Supervisors will establish an Ad Hoc Economic Development Committee.
